This module emphasises finding patterns and making lists & tables. It covers techniques for eliciting deep understanding through asking good questions and building appropriate language for teaching about generalisations.

Module Details

This module will cover word problems, and strategies for identifying the important parts of worded problems. It covers visual solution methods such as drawing diagrams and creating models and introduces the Singapore Model Method. The module also includes the use of rubrics to assess the achievement of learning outcomes.

This module includes a mixture of strategies, including:

  • guess, check and refine
  • acting it out
  • working backwards
  • logical reasoning
  • writing number sentences

It covers the use of heuristics in solving problems and the benefits of a co-operative learning approach for problem solving activities and includes implementation ideas.
