Welcome to APSMO – developing the creative maths problem solving skills of over 100,000 students each year in schools throughout Australia, New Zealand and internationally.

Primary School Competitions & Programs

Years 1-2

Maths Quest is an innovative teaching and learning program that introduces problem solving concepts in Years 1 and 2. Comprising a series of activities that are both interactive and fun, the program encourages students to work together, and learn from each other.

Years 3-4

Maths Explorer introduces mathematical problem-solving to primary students in Years 3 and 4. Adopting a fun, practical, approach that students can relate to, the program lays foundations for future learning and encourages collaboration.

Years 5-6

The Maths Games provides mainstream students in Years 5 and 6 with an opportunity to learn and develop valuable maths problem solving skills, while fostering an appreciation of maths and its application to the real-world.

Years 5-6

Our flagship Junior Division Maths Olympiad for high-achieving Years 5 and 6 students allows teams and individuals to ‘put their talent to the test’ and compete against other schools and students across Australia and New Zealand.

High School Competitions & Programs

Years 7-8

The Senior Maths Games program complements the maths curriculum and allows mainstream students in Years 7 and 8 to further develop and apply the valuable maths problem solving skills they gained through earlier programs in a non-competitive format.

Our most challenging program, the Senior Division Maths Olympiad allows high-achieving Years 7 and 8 students to compete against other students from across Australia, New Zealand in the ultimate problem solving contest.

APSMO offers a series of professional learning workshops for teachers looking to develop their skills in teaching problem solving in mathematics. Presented by experienced educators and maths specialists, the programs cover multiple strategies and techniques used in problem solving and provide examples and suggestions on how to teach them.
